The grave of the important Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) is located at the highest point of the walls that surround Heraklion. His grave is austere with a wooden cross and a plaque engraved with his famous phrase: "I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I'm free". That is my favourite spot in the whole city, you are able to see everything and you can have a nice stroll on the walls from one side of the centre to the other. Highly recommended!

On the Venetian walls of the city you will see the tomb of Nikos Kazantzakis, the great Cretan author. It's a chance to take a walk over the walls to see the city from a different view.
