About 1 1/2 hour drive west of ABQ and worth the drive. The tour is very informative and the views on top the mesa are amazing.

This is one of my favorite places to bring people. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities on the continent. Built on top of a mesa for defensive purposes. There is nothing else like it. You do need to go up on a guided tour, which depart hourly.

Wow ... if you get to New Mexico, make a point to take in Sky City of the ancient Acoma Pueblo built a top a mesa. Old Acoma is the longest inhabited settlement in the northern USA and a day trip from the Albuquerque area to the northwest via Route 40. A huge adobe mission church built around the same time as St Peter's Basilica in Rome. You check in and pay down at the cultural center for an interesting guided tour a top the mesa and have the opportunity to buy the exquisite hand-painted Acoma pottery directly from the native Acomas. A must do for anyone's bucket list, one we never get tired of taking in ourselves.
