This larger lake offers a wilder alternative to the lake of Puivert nearby, that is neater and has much more amenities

Follow signs for Monbel at Chalabre. The largest of the three nearby lakes.

Lac Montbel is a huge reservoir where swimming is permitted. It has two formal beach areas, at Montbel and Leran, and plenty of informal ones. No motorcraft are allowed on the lake.

Wonderful drive through the vineyards... the lake is great to swim in the summer
