The Uk's only official dessert. Famous 3 mile long spit and some fabulous architecture. Famous for Dungeness crab and only 300yards along the road.
Britain's only desert. This place is unique and an ecological wonder: also the end of the line for the RHD Light Railway, lighthouse and nuclear power station. Cafe and pubs; beach walks and plant and bird life.
This wild and beautiful area is the largest region of shingle deposits in Europe with is own rare flora and fauna. It also contains the home of the late Derek Jarman, an internationaly renowned filmaker and activist.
There is a remarkable variety of wildlife living at Dungeness, with over 600 different types of plants: a third of all those found in Britain. It is one of the best places in Britain to find invertebrates such as moths, bees, beetles, and spiders; many of these are very rare, some found nowhere else in Britain. Dungeness is the perfect migration hotspot. Watch the sky for hundreds of swallows, swifts and martins as they gather in huge numbers in the spring and autumn as they arrive and leave country. In the spring, listen for the booming of our bitterns and the unmistakable call of the cuckoo. In the autumn, look for the bearded tits in the reedbeds as they feed of the seed heads. Dungeness also boasts wonderful sunsets. With the flat open ground and large sky it is the perfect place to be in the evening, watch the sun go down in this tranquil place and enjoy nature at a different time of day.
