This museum was built in tribute to the ceremony conducted by the Turkish order of Whirling Dervishes. The ceremony denotes an ancient practice of spinning in a deep prayer trance, arms raised in praise of God. It is a ceremony that only those admitted into the order can perform and is one of the most fascinating spectacles that travellers can witness in Turkey. This museum archives many artefacts and documents from the long history of this ceremony, including the origins and its outlawing in the 1920s.

Aside from designated cultural centers, this is one of the only places in Istanbul to watch the dervishes. On the first floor of the lodge is a semahane, which features gilded woodwork and a painted ceiling. The Galata Mevlevi House Museum museum is open every day except Tuesday from 9:30am–5pm, and entry is 10TL. The sema dances are held every Sunday at 5pm during summer months, and every other week during winter months. Tickets for the ceremony cost 70 TL/person. You can purchase online the Sema Ceremony tickets from Biletix.

This is the campus for one of the sufi orders. You can see the whirling darvishes ceremony on Saturdays as far as I remember. Photos from a ceremony in this place was once on the National Geo. cover.
