A local hiking favorite. 2.5 miles of hiking up to the lake. Part of one of the routes to Granite peak (MTs highest peak) A little difficult for young children, and those not acclimated to the elevation or in poor cardio condition.

Great hike to Mystic Lake (moderate level) 3 miles. Approx. 1 hr. scenic drive from cabin. A couple of other lakes can be visited on your drive near the trailhead.

Mystic Lake is the deepest lake in the Beartooth Mountains. It has the largest sandy beach in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and is a wonderful destination for a day hike. Mystic Lake Trail is a 5.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Roscoe, Montana that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May - October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.Fishing at Mystic Lake is excellent, and although the Rainbow Trout are small (6-8 inches), they are tons of fun. The Montana Fish Wildlife, & Parks keeps Mystic Lake stocked with Rainbow Trout, which are usually easy to catch.
