Rent a bike from Top Jolt Cycle - 1919 Cable St, 8-10 minutes walk. They can provide you with directions, there is a dedicated bike path that connects up to the pacific beach boardwalk. Not recommended for beginners or young children as there are a couple of hilly sections and also a small stretch where you are on a sidewalk along a busy road.
