The swinging bridge was originally constructed in early 1875 by the Short family, whose land was divided by the Arroyo Grande Creek. The bridge spans a total length 171 feet and is suspended 40 feet above the creek. It's owned and maintained by the City of Arroyo Grande and is the only one of its kind in California. The bridge was damaged by a falling tree in March 1995. With strong community support, it was completely restored in May 1995.

The swinging bridge is a 170-foot pedestrian bridge suspended 40 feet above the Arroyo Grande Creek. The bridge swings and sways. A great spot for families! Kids can burn off some energy stomping across the bridge, making it swing, while parents pretend to be frightened. Also, there's no admission charge, and parking is free, too.

The only one of its kind in all of the Golden State, built in 1875. After you walk across the bridge, be sure to visit the old school house, bandstand, toddler's play area, museums and antique shops. Be sure to listen for the roosters crowing in the creek below.

This is in the Arroyo Grande Village. Five miles east, up Grand Avenue. It is behind the big white Gazebo just south of the village. There are beautiful Roosters that hang around this park. There is a small Farmers Market here on Saturdays starting at 1:00 pm. There are lots of restraunts. In the village.
