This is one of my favourite walking places in Wicklow. One day I was walking along and a whole family of deer ran through the river alongside me. During late April / early May the entire forest floor is a carpet of bluebells, which has to be seen to be believed!

Tomnafinnoge Wood is just a few minutes drive from the cottage and is the last surviving fragment of the great Coollattin Woods which once clothed the hills and valleys of south Wicklow. This ancient woodland will bring you back in time. Giant Oak trees dominate but you will encounter plenty more trees and plants on these walks. There are four different walks of varying distance. Most popular is the River Walk of 2km (4km both ways) and the Beech Walk. Shorter walks are the Oak Walk, 3.2km, and the Hazel walk, only 1.3km. This is an ideal walk suitable for all the family.

Tomnafinogue is a lovely place to go for a walk and is only about 25 minutes away just outside of Tinahely. There are a number of routes, each of varying length, you can take to make your way through the old deciduous wood. It's also a great place to go birdwatching and if you're lucky you might spot a red squirrel or a deer.
