You cannot imagine the size of this tree until you are near it or have a point of perspective! It is remarkable and is the second largest Douglas fir in Canada. Google the story of Big Lonely Doug. It is a moving story of one man's mission to save this tree.
A massive, old growth Douglas fir tree which survived the surrounding logging. It is an adventurous drive to get there. Vehicles with 4wd and good clearance are recommended.
At 230 feet, that tree is Canada's second-tallest Douglas fir; it soon became known as Big Lonely Doug, an unwitting monument to the fragility of old-growth forests everywhere.
