Our Town
I like to say, "Head to the mountains and Palmer will be what you bump into!" Palmer is situated at the confluence of rivers, trails, peaks, and mountain ranges. The scenery will take your breath away! Visitors feel like they are in a quaint, small town even though Anchorage is just 42 miles away. Palmer hosts the Alaska State Fair with the majestic Pioneer Peek providing a stunning backdrop. Palmer has a rich agricultural history and is known for the many farms that contribute to Alaska's bounty. Downtown Palmer is just the right size for a nice stroll, and our iconic water tower stands like a sentinel watching over everything! In my opinion, Palmer is a picture-perfect paradise.

Palmer

Our Neighborhood
The Lazy Mountain Neighborhood is a close-knit, quiet community with large tracts of land and custom homes. Lazy Mountain is also an agricultural community featuring wide expansive hay fields, small organic produce farms, and plenty of livestock. We live approximately 6.5 miles up the hill--where the views are the best! We are not farmers, but we do have a household garden plot featuring juicy, sweet raspberries and gorgeous dahlias.

Lazy Mountain

Day Trips
This hike is my personal favorite! Most people of all ages and fitness levels can enjoy the trail. If you are in OK shape, this hike should only take 2 hours round trip. The views are as stunning as they get. The trailhead is only about 15 minutes from our guest apartment. Because of its accessibility, this hike is popular. I would start early. Also, you will need to pay for parking online ($5).

West Butte Trail

And, how often do you get a chance to walk on a glacier? You can reserve a tour by calling the number they provide on their website. Also, stop in at the Long Rifle Lodge for pie or a burger, either before or after your tour. Check for hours of operation, as I believe the lodge is closed on Wednesdays.

Talkeetna is a little town near Denali National Park that serves as a hub for many tourist attractions. Believe it or not, one of my favorite outings is the Alaska Sled Dog Tour! The outfit picks you up in Talkeetna and shuttles you to the sled dog facility. I LOVED learning about the Iditarod and interacting with the dogs. The Denali Brewing Company is a great place to stop for refreshments!

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Palmer! We love the cobb salad, both types of tacos, and all of the burgers! They have an amazing pineapple cider!

I love the atmosphere here! Locals hang out with their computers for hours sipping coffee and nibbling yummy snacks. The desserts are very delicious (I suggest the pumpkin roll and the raspberry crumble bar). Lunch fare includes paninis, quiche, and soups. This is a perfect place to stop in for a lite meal and people watching.

By far the best breakfast in the valley! If nothing else, you will be entertained by the crooked signs all over the walls as you wait for your food. This place is popular!

Turkey Red has an interesting menu with a Mediterranean flair. Sometimes the service is inconsistent, but I have never been disappointed with the food. Great for lunch!
