Hatcher Pass is a hiker's paradise. Even if you just drive through the pass, you will be better because of it. My personal favorite hike is Reed Lakes, but it's a long one! Plan for a full but memorable day. A section of the hike involves a boulder scramble (not my favorite part), but the end result is stunning!

Hatcher Pass is a mountain pass through the southwest part of the Talkeetna Mountains, Alaska. It is named after Robert Hatcher, a prospector and miner. The nearest cities are Palmer and Wasilla approximately 12 miles to the south, and Willow approximately 26 mi to the west.

Hatcher's Pass road is a scenic drive that can be accessed north of Palmer, or from the Willow side of the pass. In Alaskan summer, travelers are able to drive up from one side and over the pass, then drive down the other side, with many scenic views along the way! In the winter it's a fun area for skiing and sledding, but the upper area is not open to drive through the pass.

One of the very best scenic places to travel to in the valley. Long or short hikes to enjoy and just a gorgeous drive.

Beautiful drive to a gorgeous place to ski or hike! About a two hour drive from Anchorage. The old Independence Mine here is fun to explore and a good historical landmark. Remember Alaska has much wildlife in the summer. I’ve come across black bear here quite often while hiking and berry picking off trail.
