Hot Springs

The Iron Mountain Hot Springs is a must-visit, especially for adults since you can sip a beverage and try out all of the different temperature pools while overlooking the Colorado River. They have 16 natural pools that anyone over 5 years of age can soak in, a family pool and jetted spa for families with kids under 5 years old. They have a new section for 21 years old and up that has 10 pools with different minerals that are mixed into the water so that the water is like famous hot springs in other places in the world, a cold plunge pool, and a float pool with lots of salt like the dead sea. It is very close - only a 5 minute drive away! Towels and lockers are included, and you need to book a 3 hour reservation on their website in advance if you are planning on visiting at a popular time.

If you are traveling with younger kids, we would recommend that you visit the Glenwood Hot Springs! There is a huge outdoor pool area, a splash zone for littler ones, and slides. Lockers are free, but towels are purchased, so be sure to borrow the towels that we have next to the welcome table in the living room.

This can be a hit-or-miss wild, natural hot springs experience that is only for adventurous adults and not good for kids (sometimes there is nudity or strange characters hanging around.) We would recommend that you do a google search before you go to get an idea of whether this is something you are interested in. REMEMBER: Pack out your trash and never put your head underwater in a wild, natural hot spring.

This is a very small, wild, natural hot springs in the Crystal River that only exists in low water. The secret is out on this spot, so this can get crowded and has limited parking in a canyon, so you may end up out of luck and having to turn around. There is also sometimes nudity, so this is not recommended for kids. REMEMBER: Pack out your trash and never put your head underwater in a wild, natural hot spring.

Aspen Highlands is a smaller, steep mountain that is not for beginners. If you are an expert and like to earn your turns, you can hike the highlands bowl to access some very cool terrain near the tree line. There is VERY limited parking at highlands, so you will need to park at one of the down-valley lots and take the ski shuttle (I recommend Brush Creek/Hwy 82 since there is always plenty of parking.) Aspen Highlands is also famous for Cloud Nine, the highest grossing restaurant per square foot. If you like to have $125 bottles of veuve clicquot sprayed on you, this is your spot (and thank you for choosing the Hot Springs Haven over the Jerome or the St Regis!)

Aspen Mountain is a challenging mountain with lots of great terrain (not recommended for beginners.) Keep your eyes peeled for celebrities, "shrines" in the trees, and lots of moguls. There is not a lot of parking in Aspen and a lot of it is paid or reserved, so you may want to park in one of the shuttle lots (Brush Creek/Hwy 82 is the biggest and most reliable) and take the ski shuttle to the base. The base of Aspen Mountain is right in the middle of the town of Aspen, so you can do some window shopping at the designer stores after your ski day! Gorsuch Ski Cafe near the main base has a great bratwurst and beer deal. Also be sure to look up events on the mountain or in town since there are often great free concerts and art exhibits.

The food here is really great and creative (their chef is well known from when he used to work in Aspen), and I would absolutely recommend here for a nice dinner or brunch. My uncle says they have the best burger in the valley and comes here often in the afternoon after going on a ski tour! Since it is not right downtown, this can be a good place to check if you are worried about long wait times at the downtown restaurants.
