This is the place- worth the beautiful drive if you want to go past Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, etc. This is located in Naalehu which is near Kau---- beautiful drive. They have the best Malasadas (donuts fresh baked with exotic fruit fillings), they make the famous sweet bread on site and they have really great food and ice cream. A must stop.

Kona has Costco----if you are staying for awhile and want to stock up on food- this is the place to go. Also a great place to buy your mac nuts and chocolates to bring home- best prices for bulk pacs.
73-5600 Maiau St, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 Just head back to airport and go to Hina Lani Street- turn left, make first right Kanalani Street and then left at Maiau Street- you will see it easily. They also have very reasonable gas!

Costco Wholesale

This is just a beautiful property. We love Copper Bar at sunset. They have incredible views and this hotel, built by Rockefeller, is amazing. The architecture and natural beauty are amazing. If you want formal dining at night- we can recommend Manta Ray and Hau Tree is ocean front in the sand---very casual and great food.

This is one of our absolute favorites. A friend of ours encouraged us to go on our first visit many years ago. Plan to get there with a to go dinner----bring a bag of chips and see what happens to the bag! I remember our first visit looking out and being above the sunset---it was probably one of the most breathtaking views ever. Then when the sun goes down the stars come out- I have been to several observatories and none compare to this one. It is worth the trip and it is easy to get to on Saddle Road.

This is located at the Hilton Resort. It is a great experience and you learn a lot. You can park at the hotel and let them know you are going to Dolphin Quest. When you go to the lobby ask the staff for directions- you can take the monorail to their location- it is by the big pool to the left of the lobby by the guest tower to the left. They have a place to observe closely and they also take lots of pictures from the water so you can get some really great memory photos. Call ahead for reservations.

If you want to go see the other side of the island- we recommend driving down the Hamakua Coast----you go towards Waimea- beautiful switch backs, ocean views and lots of cute little stops along the way to get a snack or great pictures. A great stop is Akaka Falls- a short hike to the falls but worth the view. You may also see lots of other waterfalls as you drive in the many canyons. Great day trip to do this drive, stop in downtown Hilo- and the fruit market downtown--- and then when you are ready to come back, take Saddle Road- faster and more direct - about 90 minutes drive back.
