Piazza San Marco is really the heart of Venice, it might be crowded, but it's always worthwhile to visit it, especially if your guide is a real native Venetian, like me, who can escort you along the streets and knows how to avoid the crowds. In Venice we have only one "Piazza" that means "square" all the other piazzas are called "Campo". Here we do speak Italian but we are more used to speak our Venetian dialect. I can speak 5 lenguajes beside the Venetian. I also like to share my own experiences as resident to other Persons from all over the World. My family and I are in this trade since generation and I promise to offer you my best.

Since many centuries a big community of Jewish People are living here. Their first location was on the island called Giudecca, from the name "Giudei", that means Hebrew. 500 years ago, the Doge of Venice decided to give to this important Community a nice place, called Ghetto. The are wonderful Sinagogas and some restaurants serving Kosher food. It's located close to the train station area, in Cannaregio district. The calm and the atmosphere are unique as well as the history of these things Persons.

This is the second Church of Venice, in importance and size. All the graves of our Doges are there and just aside of it you can admire the most beautiful Renaissance facade of the Scuola Grande di San Marco. Once time ago it was a Convent related to the Church, now it's just the entrance of our Hospital.

Rialto is the biggest and most important bridge of Venice. It is across the Grand Canal, completely renowned few years ago full of historic places and topically Venetian coffee shops, wineries and also where we still buy fresh food, vegetables and cheese and all the other things to prepare our meals. It might be an occasion for you to test how able you are to prepare lunch and dinner at home made by you.

Murano is a little is little island close to Venice connected by public water bus in only 5 minutes from the water bus station of Fondamente Nove, it's very famous for the glass, chandeliers and glasses, mirrors all still made by hand by cleaver Masters. You can visit some factories and just in case you fall in love with somethings you might ask them to ship the items to your home address. They are specialized in shipping expensive things and very fragile. I am sure, you won't leave Murano without a piece of glass. It's irresistible......

This Church is a special one, all made of yellow marble now used only for special weddings, especially weddings of the Nobel Families of the North of Europe. It's small, wonderful inside and it is just in front of my own house where I live. Even if I see it every day I still get impressed how beautiful it is. Have a look inside and you'll agree with me.

In Venice there are several Museums, this is the top one. Close to the only bridge made of wood, Accademia Bridge, is really full of masterpieces starting from Leonardo's drawings to the most famous painters of the Past, like Tiziano, Bellini, Tiepolo, Caravaggio to the more contemporary art on the last floor of this Palace. Also the view from this building is breathtaking.

Offerta gastronomica

One of my favorite places to have real Venetian food and good wine is Osteria Da Alberto, very close to the stunning Church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. It's very clean, with reasonable prices and carried by local Venetian people. You won't regret, I am sure.
I suggest you to walk through this street, it's very typical and happy, one of the few elementary school is here and I like to hear children screening and joking around, and beside this, right at the corner on the right, you can buy the best Venetian bread in one of the oldest bakery where every day I buy my bread. Its name is Semenzato. Always a couple of steps away, there's Osteria Da Alberto.

If you desire to have a special drink, Harry's Bar is the best choice. Very famous for the Bellini, Mr. Arrigo Cipriani, a good friend of mine, with His staff will be more than happy to serve you whatever you want. Ernst Hemingway was always here searching for an inspiration for one of His books and tasting a good risotto (rice) dish. It's not a cheap place but it worths each penny.

Facing the Gran Canal, Ombra del Leon (not Leone, just Leon, in Venetian dialect) is a great place for easy meals and drinks. You can sit outside with a lovely view or inside, on very confortable armchairs made in velvet by hand. Immaculate clean, carried by a Venetian Family, good friends of mine, you will feel like a piece of their family, I fall in love with the mother of the owner and besides all types of food and drinks and coffee, I like the restrooms all made in black marble, very modern and so unique in such an antique Town.

St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge

No words can quickly describe the historical importance of these two places in Venice. For the Basilica of St. Mark's, Doge's Palace you have to book with reservation online and pay for your tickets in advance. You can simply do it on the official City Hall Website visitmuve.it. On that Site you will find a lot of information about Venice, also on the English version, and book other places, like Doge's Palace, St. Mark's bell tower as well as the visit to the Accademia Museum and get some inspiration of what you desire to see. Of course, it depends how many days you will be in Venice.

What you cannot miss to visit.

It's difficult to find quickly words to describe the historical importance of the St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge. I suggest you to take a look at the official Website of the City Hall of Venice, visitmuve.it, where you can simply book in advance and pay for the tickets what you want to see during your vacation. You might get also some inspiration for other places like Doge's Palace, St. Mark's bell tower and the Accademia Museum. Booking some of these places in advance will avoid you to stay on a long line waiting to enter. So, please, just do it.

Inside the Churches photos are forbidden.

Once you are in Venice you cannot miss a gondola's tour. Especially with the sunset is very relaxing and romantic. The price is decided by the City Hall and it is 80 Euros for 30 minutes up to six persons till 10pm and 100 Euros after. We don't tip the gondolier. Regarding Churches only Ladies have to cover the shoulders with a simple scarf and pay 5 Euros each person, not the children, for the entrance. No other restrictions are required.

Parking area

If you will arrive in Venice by car the best parking area is the Garage San Marco in Piazzale Roma. You can simply make a reservation for your car online on their website. It's very safe I also have my own car there and it close to the public water bus station to reach your apartment
Qué meter en la valija

Shoes and dress

As in Venice we don't have car, you will walk a lot so I suggest you to wear confortable shoes and unformal dress. If you come in Summer, a folding cap would be necessary.
Frases útiles

Some important words in Italian you might need.

You don't need to speak Italian. Here in Venice we almost all try to speak English, however you might need only some words like, where's the restroom? (dove è il bagno?) and how much does it cost? (quanto costa?) Good morning (buon giorno) thank you (grazie) Good evening (buona sera). That it.
Viajar con niños

Travelling with children

Children are more than welcome to come to Venice and all the restaurants and coffee shops are available for them. In Venice we don't have cars so, please, let your children run and play in the streets and squares. My only concern is that you have to pay attention to the canals. One of your child might jump into and it's better to avoid this experience.
