Also called "The drawing room of Europe", Piazza San Marco is the undisputed symbol of Venice. After a day of walking among the beautiful and narrow "calli", coming out into the big square is like taking a breath of air and art. A walk in Piazza San Marco also deserves a break at Caffè Florian, founded in 1720. Among the oldest in the world, it was frequented by historical personalities such as Dickens, D'Annunzio, Rousseau and many others. Going around the basilica it will be possible to see, set in a corner of the outer wall, the statue of the tetrarchs: dating back to around 300 AD is a statue in red porphyry depicting four kings, brought from Constantinople to Venice during the Fourth Crusade. CURIOSITY The bell tower of San Marco is affectionately called by the Venetians "El parón de casa", or the landlord, referred to Venice.

Piazza San Marco is really the heart of Venice, it might be crowded, but it's always worthwhile to visit it, especially if your guide is a real native Venetian, like me, who can escort you along the streets and knows how to avoid the crowds. In Venice we have only one "Piazza" that means "square" all the other piazzas are called "Campo". Here we do speak Italian but we are more used to speak our Venetian dialect. I can speak 5 lenguajes beside the Venetian. I also like to share my own experiences as resident to other Persons from all over the World. My family and I are in this trade since generation and I promise to offer you my best.
