Marblemount is called the "gateway to the American Alps" for a good reason! It is the launch point to glaciers, glacial lakes, huge volcanic mountains, and ancient tress. Although the town itself is very small, the Shell station has a small grocery store with organic bread, cheese, eggs, and very delicious breakfast sandwiches in the morning! Mondo restaurant is a backpacker classic but we can't say that we love the food.

The Mountain Home sits on Cascade River road. This road dead ends in Cascade pass, a glacier basin about 15 miles past the house. Although the road does not open all the way until the glaciers until late June, you are able to drive about 10 miles up the road from the cabin. This is a lovely drive and offers an opportunity to stop and explore rivers, hikes, and scenic views.

Sightseeing

Cascade River road fully opens towards the end of June or early July. We strongly recommend driving up to Cascade pass (~14 miles up the road from the home). The parking lot is in a beautiful glacial basin and there is a fantastic hike called "Cascade pass trail" that takes you to amazing views of the valley and deeper into the mountains (should you so choose). The hike is a legit hike with a lot of elevation gain and some snow crossing (earlier in the summer).

Just a mile from the house, this trailhead leads you up switchbacks through a pristine forest with a raging river as your company. Branch off to Monogram lake and the National park is about half way up. Pups are allowed for most of the trail!

This is a great stroll around Baker Lake with the beautiful volcano in the backdrop! Good for families and for those who rather stroll than climb a mountain.

Beautiful hike close to the cabin; it takes you up a narrow valley by a strong river to a tremendously isolated mountain lake

A N Cascades classic! Great for a drive or to catch a mellow stroll. Also, numerous big hikes launch from here! Rumor has it that pups are allowed on a leash!

How to get to the home

There are 2 major ways to get to the home from Highway 5. From Seattle, our favorite route is through Arrington to Darrington and then up to Rockport. This brings you through some beautiful country for an hour or so prior to arriving! You can also go via highway 20.

Some things to pack:

-Water bottles -Sunscreen -Sunglasses -Insect repellant -A headlamp or flashlight -National geographic map of North Cascades National Park (we have one on-site but most find it useful to have one they can reference when out and about) -Ground coffee or tea bags (we have a kettle, french press, and mugs) -Food for meals and snacking (restaurants are fairly limited nearby) -Download music (for the Bose speaker on site)
