Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

I am an Artist / Photographer born in Kyoto I started hosting because I love meeting people from all over the world and making new friends. This place used to be one big guesthouse, but during Covid19, I have stopped running the guesthouse and I moved in with my wife and 2 kids. Still I didn't want to give up so I left the good parts. Private cypress bath and renovated rooms and made another entrance for the Guests. So now it is 2 separate house Please check the house rules before you book.

To ensure you enjoy the stay to the fullest, I set check-in and check-out time to both 12:00 Noon. So you can stay up for 24 hours with one night booking. YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.

This is a 90-year-old traditional Kyoumachiya certified by Kyoto City. World heritage Ginkakuji Temple and the path of philosophy are within a 5-minute walk. It is also a convenient location for Nanzenji and Heian Shrine. Kyoumachiya, where ordinary people enjoy the seasons and enjoy daily life, is a relaxing and nostalgic space. It is 92 square meters including the 2nd floor, and the wet area is easy to use and has been renovated, so you can spend it comfortably.

「Tabitabi Taishi」 remodeled from a traditional Japanese-style [Machiya]. It is designed with a lot of hand-dyed Japanese style Tang paper, wallpapers made of tin and gold foils, and other traditional Japanese crafts and elements. We also retain the original properties of the machiya. Here, you can experience the original and traditional Japan, and also you can feel the ingenuity of combining modern elements with traditional craftsmanship.

Lake Biwa Right in Front | Ideal for Large Groups

Okubiwako Shikitei is a traditional Japanese-style private villa located in the northern Lake Biwa area. It is reserved for one group per day and can accommodate up to 16 guests. All guest rooms, except the kitchen, face Lake Biwa, so you can enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Okubiwako area at any time. From the boathouse on the basement floor, you can go directly to the lake. You can also enjoy BBQ there even on rainy days.

古民家の2階は広いシアタールームになっています。 シアタールームではAmazonプライムを自由にお楽しみいただけます。 地元の食材を存分に使って調理できる広いキッチンも大人気。キッチン、浴室、トイレなどの水回りは新しく使い勝手も抜群です。 朱種は、敦賀市横浜を中心に診療所として地元に愛された場所をリノベーションした建物です。戦時中、満州で医師として活動していた方が、終戦後帰省した際、医療が充実していなかったこの土地に診療所を開いてもらえないかという地元の熱い声に応え、開院されました。建設には地域の皆さんが関わり、例えば山の木を男性たちが伐採して運搬、土壁は女性たちが山土を人力で運んだり、庭師の方が先生に快適に過ごしてもらおうと大きな池を中心に庭園をつくったりと、村総出で作り上げた愛ある場所となりました。のちに交通機関も発達して、その役目が終わり解体を検討されましたが、朱種のオーナーに声がかかり、リノベーションして現在の形となりました。
