Korouoma is a 30 km long northwest-southeast valley on the border of Posion and Ranua municipalities. It is part of a hundreds of millions of years old bedrock crumbling zone that runs from Rovaniemi following the Kemijokila Valley to Autti and Auttikönkä and through Korouoma to Kuusamo. The small streams that descend from the cliffs freeze in the winter to form icefalls that remain unmelted until late spring.
