I would lose many hours talking about the countless historical buildings located in this one street, which literally has just palaces from the Rolli list, edited between the 16th and the 17th century from the lords of the city where only the most beautiful houses of the most important family in Genova were included. It’s the most beautiful street in the city by a long shot, you have at least to look at this outstanding place, but you should definitely visit some palaces like Palazzo Bianco, Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Doria Tursi, Palazzo della Meridiana, Palazzo Podestà (these ones are often opened to the public while the others are usually closed) and the list goes on and on. Also, you can have an aperitivo in Palazzo Rosso’s courtyard, highly recommended, it’s an almost unique experience to be able to eat in such an amazing location.

Via Garibaldi is an ideal place to begin a visit to the Old Town! The 14 buildings are home to the Town Hall, major banks, clubs, cultural groups, antique dealers, shops and public and private offices. Via Garibaldi, the "Strada Nuova" (New Street) dating to the mid-16th century, is also known as "la Via Aurea" (the Golden Street). With its beautiful palaces, it boasts some of the world’s most fascinating architecture. Opened after 1550, to gather the city's most important families into a single setting, it was originally called "Via Aurea" due to the splendour of its buildings.
