There is a lot to see in Athlone. Well worth a day trip to go and visit.

Athlone Castle, a Norman Castle was built in 1210 and is located on the west bank of the River Shannon, beside the Bridge of Athlone.

This is a lovely spot to visit walking around the grounds is free you have a beautiful view of the Shannon..There is a charge for the tour of the museum.
