17kms from Adamstown to Belmont. Starting at Adamstown station, this is a shared pathway along the route of a former rail line between Adamstown and Belmont. The paved, 15km gently graded track takes in coastal, wetland and bushland environments and is suitable for people of all fitness levels. It passes through the suburbs of Kotara, Kahiba, Whitebridge, Redhead and Jewells before terminating near Belmont TAFE. Popular for bike riding as it is flat and off road. A flat 45mins one way cycle from Adamstown to stunning Red Head Beach and Kiosk.

Popular cycle and walkway. The Fernleigh Track is the Hunter region’s most popular shared pathway. The 15km route along a disused coal haul rail line passes through the suburbs of Adamstown, Kahibah, Whitebridge, Redhead, Jewells and ends near Belmont TAFE, taking in the Glenrock State Conservation Area, Awabakal Nature Reserve and Belmont Wetlands State Park. Features Suitable for all fitness levels Safe off-road link between residential areas and employment hubs Former stations and heritage railway relics dot the track Fernleigh Tunnel linking Lake Macquarie and Newcastle

Very long walk. There are multiple places you can hop on and off the track. Great if you have a bike. See google for more information.

Seeking some adventure? Then a stroll, or ride along Fernleigh Track is a must. The highlight is the 200 metre curved Fernleigh tunnel. The track follows the old rail line that brought coal from the Dudley Colliery to Newcastle Harbour.
