It's going to take you a good two hours of walking on a steep pre-Alpine tiny path to get to the Murelli Refuge from Carate Urio but the view of the lake and of the Alpi mountains will be worth the effort. And you can enjoy some local dishes such as "pizzoccheri" (pasta with potato, herbs and cheese) or Valtellina's nebbiolos (red wine).
