Underneath the mysterious Royal Forest of Dean lies something spectacular and unseen, an unfathomable natural cave system that has been mined for more than 4,500 years. This warren of caves are fantastic to explore, learning all about the free-miners of the Forest of Dean, as well as the natural caves themselves. Special experience events are available such as candlelight tours and party nights. Deep caving experiences are also available for the brave.

For at least 4,500 years the Freeminers of the Forest have been mining here, leaving behind magnificent caves and an abundance of amazing stories.

Clearwell Caves is well worth a visit, you do not need to book but pre-booking online is cheaper. Amazing caves and history, with adventure caving for the more daring. It is also home to The Real Father Christmas for the festive period. Please note, at the moment entry into all attractions is via online booking only.

This is magical at Christmas. Truly. There are 100’s of presents wrapped up in the caves all with names. My children loved trying to find “their” present. Lovely cafe and beautiful illuminated story all down in the caves, plus Santa in his grotto.
