June 25, 1876 was the day of Lt Col Custer's Last Stand as he and his men were defeated by Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull and the Lakota Sioux tribe. (About an hour's drive from Sheridan)

More western history: this national monument preserves the site of the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn. It serves as a memorial to those who fought in the battle: Lakota-Northern Cheyenne and Arapahoe warriors and General Custer and his 7th Calvary. (approximately 1.5 hour drive to the site.)
