What to do in Springbrook National Park

Rudders Lookout is directly in front of our Retreat. Take a look at the Guide to Springbrook National Park: https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/springbrook/pdf/springbrook-guide.pdf
Immediately in front of the Retreat are two walking trails - The Twin Falls Circuit (4 kms) and Warrie Circuit (17 kms). The Twin Falls Circuit is one of the best natural walking trails within Springbrook National Park. See and walk behind two breathtaking waterfalls (Twin Falls and Blackfellow Falls) and perhaps go for a swim in the waterhole near Twin Falls. The Twin Falls Circuit is a must do!

Look in wonder at Antarctic beech trees on the Best of All lookout track. These ancient giants, once widespread across the continent, are one of our remaining links with the prehistoric forests of Gondwana. Pass boulders and trees covered with lichen and moss to reach a spectacular view of Mount Warning and the ocean on the horizon.

Wow! Just walk out the front of the Retreat and take a few steps up the road to your right and then on your left you will see a small track. At the end of this track you'll discover a small lookout called 'Rudders Lookout'. This lookout has expansive views over the Canyon and out over the Gold Coast Skyline. At this point, you are on the main trail called the 'Twin Falls Circuit'. We suggest you take the folding chairs over to Rudders Lookout for an afternoon aperitif. Enjoy!

The closest swimming hole to the Retreat is underneath the Twin Falls Waterfall. Just walk out the front of the Retreat, walk up the road to your right for a few meters and take the small track to the left which takes you directly to 'Rudders Lookout'. It's only about 20 meters away from the Retreat. This lookout has expansive views over the Canyon and out over the Gold Coast Skyline. At this point the main trail you are on is called the 'Twin Falls Circuit'. This circuit is about 4kms long. You can decide to either walk it in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. If you want to swim first then go anticlockwise along the Trail. The entire circuit takes an hour to walk depending on your pace but allow 2 to 3 hours if swimming and taking your time to enjoy your natural surroundings. The best place to enter the swimming hole once you arrive at Twin Falls is to: 1) Go to the lower pathway that looks up at the Waterfall, 2) In front of you will be a large rock that juts out into the swimming hole, 3) Enter from behind and to the left hand side of this rock. This approach doesn't have as many rocks or pebbles underfoot. Try floating on your back and skimming over near or under the waterfall, depending on how much water is flowing. This waterhole is shallow in places where you can stand so please be careful and do not dive into the water. You can also swim at Purling Brook Falls however my preference is Twin Falls since it's so convenient!!

Follow the easy 1 km (walk in a clockwise direction) and descend through ancient Gondwana rainforest to the Natural Bridge rock arch. Hoop pines emerging from the surrounding forest are living relics of the Jurassic Age, 180 million years ago. During the day spot paradise riflebirds, green catbirds, wompoo fruit-doves and also rare and threatened species like the cascade tree frog, tusked frog, sooty owl and koala. At night see the resident colony of protected glow-worms and microbats. On summer nights, also see luminous fungi and fireflies. Part of Cave Creek in the Natural Bridge section is a Restricted Access Area. Swimming in the creek, including within the cave, and access to the creek bank is prohibited.
