Really good Japanese food and friendly staff. A long-ish walk, but worth it (or grab the 442 bus). Best to book, if you want to eat there in peak periods.

A little further to go (continue on Darling Street, cross Victoria Road and go a little further) but worth it for scrumptious food and wonderful groceries.

Take the ferry to Darling Harbour, Luna Park or Taronga Zoo

The Balmain East ferry wharf is a quick walk from our house, and a relaxed way to explore harbourside attractions and beat Sydney traffic. Download the Tripview app for the ferry timetable. Take ferry in the direction of Barangaroo / Pyrmont Bay for Darling Harbour (Maritime Museum, Chinese Garden, wading pool and playground for young kids). Take ferry in the direction of Circular Quay, alighting at Milsons Point for Luna Park. Continue to Circular Quay for Sydney Opera House and Botanical Gardens. Change ferries at Circular Quay for Taronga Zoo, Watson's Bay or Manly's lovely beaches
