We love this place! In the daytime it is a very cool cafe. In the evening it turns into a very chilled and quirky bar which often has live music on. They serve delicious cakes but no other food. However, they are very happy for customers to bring food in so you can pop next door to Mimi's deli for a sandwich and bring it in. Even better, on a rainy Saturday you can pick up food at the Oval farmers' market and take it into the Cable cafe to enjoy with your coffee. To get there turn left out of the house and walk to the end of Brixton Road (about 10 minutes). If you are feeling lazy, you could hop on any of the buses outside the house and get off at "St Marks Church / Oval Station". The Cable Cafe is right by the bus stop,

No trip to London would be complete without a trip to the Wolseley for breakfast or brunch. This is a firm favourite amongst most Londoners. Somehow it manages to accommodate groups of friends, families and business meetings with style and charm.

You cannot miss Brixton Village and Market Row. Hard to explain until you go but they are basically two covered markets where each market stall is a different cafe, bar, restaurant or independent shop. It is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner or for just a coffee or stroll. You will be spoilt for choice for what to eat or drink but I have tried to recommend a few particular favourites in this guidebook. Note many of the units are closed on Mondays and that the whole market closes early on Mondays.

This is a great spot for a drink and a light bite. The views of London are amazing! The bar is part of an art project and located on the top of a multi story carpark in Peckham. It is only open in the summer months and can get very busy on sunny evenings. If you fancy a visit it is best to get therefore 7pm. It also does brunch at the weekends. Occasionally yoga classes take place there too!

Pop Brixton is a community project which turned wasted space into a really fun place to hang out. It is essentially a collection of shipping containers set around a courtyard. Each container houses a little bar, a restaurant, a shop....you can eat amazing food at brilliant prices whilst having a lot of fun. Open all day and all evening (when it can get very busy and lively) this spot is really worth a visit.

Sightseeing

If you want to try to get a flavour of what London may have been like way back when, then a walk around St James's is a must. There are so many beautiful shops and spots you can stroll past and you should check out the St James's directory. These are some favourites: Paxton and Whitfield at 93 Jermyn Street (one of the oldest cheesemongers in England); Floris at 89 Jermyn Street (a perfume shop founded in 1730); Lock and Co at 6 St James' (one of the oldest hatters in England); Berry Brothers (a beautifully old wine merchant).
