Food Scene

Hands down the single most impressive, hardest working, and highest quality brewery in Texas, Karbach is a name known all over the state thanks to their ridiculously well crafted beer. Their brewery has a beautiful new taproom and restaurant, with food a cut above most brewery offerings. The brewery tour itself (free) is interesting, informative, and a great way to start a day of adventuring. Seriously people, if you come to Houston, go to Karbach Brewery, and if you don't have anyone to go with I'll go with you any day of the week.

Whoa these are some great old school hamburgers. I didn't know Prince's was a thing until I first made it to Houston. Apparently locals know this place as a classic grill to get some of the best, meatiest, burgers around, and I now concur with them. It's theme can best be described as classic Rockwell Americana, with it's small space filled with images of classic cars, historic images of Houston, and The King, Elvis Presley himself. As much of a throwback as it might be, there's a huge variety to the food and plenty of unique and delicious options to choose from. My personal go to is a burger with swiss, grilled mushrooms, and a couple of crispy onion rings on top. Not the place to go if you want to count calories, but exactly the place to go if you need an escape from just that.

If you're a fan of Chinese cooking, giant buffets full of variety and strange dishes, and convenient comfort food, this place should satisfy you well. I learned of my fondness for Dim Sum and less-than-common regional dishes while overseas, and thanks to Houston's diversity and entrepreneurial spirit we have places like this. For an American-style buffet with uniquely diverse servings, try it out.

Wow this is some good Pho! If you love pho, and by all reasons of sanity you should, then head here soon. This place is actually considered one of the best places to get pho in Houston, a city that's known for its good pho. This relatively small restaurant is beautifully decorated, has excellent service, and an amazing selection of carefully prepared cuisines, even though 90% of its patrons reliably order the eponymous noodle bowl.

This is one of Houston's oldest and most interesting bar districts. It's constantly changing, always strange, and full of unique bars and Houston's best restaurants.

Don't go here, this is my bar, it's a secret place, only known to those who discover it during a late night foray into unknown lands. This is my favorite place in Houston. Every night of the week a different live band plays on the relatively small stage in this fine old tavern. There's nothing pretty about this place, since the only two things they seem to care about are the bar and the stage, which provide great selection/service and entertainment respectively. Tucked away in a nondescript building almost hidden from view, those who enter its doors at night are treated to some of the best blues, jazz, and rock and roll the American South has to offer. The music generated by these veterans of the road will restore you soul, quicken your heart, and bring a shy man to sing.
