Food Scene

The Grove is great for a casual lunch or just stop in for a cappuccino and a great dessert. The atmosphere is relaxed with great food, beer and wine, and both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking Fillmore Street. If you're up for a salad, try the chicken salad with apples, blue cheese, and walnuts. Large portions, enough to take home. thegrovesf.com

Drinks & Nightlife

Fillmore Street has been the center of jazz music in San Francisco since the 1940's. Acclaimed the Harlem of the West, it has many popular jazz spots. What's great about Sheba is that it's intimate (you sit maybe 3 feet away from the musicians) and the music is free. Home to up-and-coming jazz musicians, you're guaranteed a great time with great drinks and light snacks too. Perfect place to hang out on a Sunday afternoon. shebapianolounge.com

Everything Else

Just two blocks north up Divisadero is Broadway Street and the start of what's coined Billionaire's Row. From exquisite Victorians dating back to the turn of the century to Palladian masterpieces, Broadway from Divisadero to Lyon is home to old money, celebrities such as Danielle Steele, and tech newcomers. There are walking tours, but you don't need one. At the end of the street, you'll want to stop at the Lyon Street Stairs.

Sightseeing

The Lyon Street stairs is at the end of Billionaire's row. These beautifully maintained stairs feature a gorgeous garden as well as one of the "Hearts of San Francisco," a collection of heart sculptures created by local artists that dot the city and contribute to local philanthropy. The local property owners (and I'm assuming their gardeners) lovingly take care of the stairs and their beautiful plantings. It's also a great place for a workout. In addition to the beauty of the stairs, the spot offers gorgeous views of the San Francisco Bay and the Palace of Fine Arts.

Parks & Nature

The Presidio is a National Park and treasure. It's a great place for a picnic on the main post, a bike ride, or a hike through eucalyptus trees. And, then there's the fabulous Bay views. The Presidio has a rich history from the Ohlone people who first inhabited it. The Spanish claimed it as the northernmost outpost of their western North America territory. The U.S. Army took control in 1846 and the Presidio played a pivotal role safeguarding the SF Bay in WWII. You'll enjoy the visitor's center at the main post, and the incredible. The Presidio became been a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in 1994.

Entertainment & Activities

The Vogue theatre is more than a place to watch a movie. It was built in 1901, and more than 100 years later, it still thrives as SF's most charming single-screen cinema for big releases. You can also see foreign flicks, and, of course, the requisite midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Best place for a rainy day.

Shopping

There are so many great stores and boutiques on Fillmore Street that it's hard to name that all. L'Occitane is a great place for a gift with it's French lavender soaps and my own fav, the lavender hand creme. For more on Fillmore Shops, http://www.fillmoreshop.com
