Töölönlahti is actually a bay of the sea though it looks like a lake. There's nice path all around it for jogging or just seeing the sights, like the Opera house, Finlandia hall, Music house, Kiasma museum of modern art, natural history museum and more. You can access it through Kaisaniemenpuisto nicely from Kruununhaka

Töölönlahti is actually a bay of the sea though it looks like a lake. There's nice path all around it for jogging or just seeing the sights, like the Opera house, Finlandia hall, Music house, Kiasma museum of modern art, natural history museum and more. You can access it through Kaisaniemenpuisto nicely from Kruununhaka

This is "the other" market square and indoor market hall, just a short stroll over the bridge. It is maybe less touristic and famous, hence authentic in a different way. The market hall is a beutifull historical building, awaiting for complete renovation in 2018

Helsinki Sky wheel is a rather new addition to the city's touritic attractions. I havent tried it myself but given its location, it should offer a stunning birds eye view of Helsinki.

UNESCO world heritage site, the Suomenlinna fortress can be reached by Ferry from the market square. Perfect destination for a day out in nature, exploring the historical islands, having a pick nick or eating in one of the local places on the island.
The construction for the fortress began in 1747 and has since served for protection of Sweden, Russia and Finland in the course of history. The ferry trip is about 15-20 minutes for admiring the archipelago and seeing Helsinki from the sea. Highly recommended. Beware, it can be windy out there!
