Food Scene

looking for some genuine Seattle fast food? Teriyaki is it, and this is some of the best in the city. There may be no best time to go because every time we pick up dinner, there's a line. Our favorites: yakisoba, chicken katsu, and for a small meal try one of their bowls.

Top Pot sprung to life in Seattle and has been giving us sweet, greasy goodness for the past fourteen plus years. There are plenty of chances to grab a donut at Top Pot around the city but here you get a spectacular view with your donut and coffee. Our favorites - the apple fritter, or course. And anything maple. Glazed. Plain. Wait, ALL OF THEM.

Entirely unique to Georgetown, open just once a month, this is the coolest spot with a steam punk aesthetic. A national landmark, the plant represents an important development in the early history of electrical engineering in the United States, marking the beginning of the end of the reciprocating steam engine's domination of the growing field of electrical power generation. The Georgetown Steam Plant is open to the public the second Saturday of every month from 10:00am to 2:00pm, with free guided tours at 11:00am and 1:00pm.

A local suggesting Pike Place? Oh yeah! It's one of the greatest spots in Seattle. You can be a tourist and gawk at the fish throwers or you can pick up local produce, jams, nuts, meats and bring it all home to cook dinner. Check out Beecher's Cheeses, Sur la Table, and the truly delicious humbows at Mee Sum Pastry. Even a local enjoys a few hours wandering around the market. If you stop at Lowells you might even run into our friend Tina tending bar.

For us Alki is iconic Seattle. Sit on the beach and watch the ferries go back and forth as you gaze at downtown. It's a great place to visit in the summer but our favorite time of year is the winter, when it's quiet and beautiful. Stop for some fish and chips at Spuds and you might even see our family playing in the Sound.

It's a bit silly to categorize Costco at a grocery store, plus we are sure you don't need the world's largest bag of cheese for your trip, but we do want you to know that the Costco on 4th Avenue is the original Costco. Well, they did tear down the actual original store and build a new one a while ago, but it's still where it all began and over the last twenty years we've seen the same people working there. You can also get a super cheap pizza from their food court. And they have gas and a car wash. Brave the Costco parking lot like a local!!!!

We totally get that some people are zoo people and some people aren't. We're Seattleites after all. When it comes to zoos, we really enjoy Woodland Park. It's huge, lots of space for kids to run, a carousel and a great indoor forest filled with birds. Once again, we love the zoo in the winter when it's less crowded.
