If you don't want to mingle with the tourists on the beach, and if you want to avoid the crowds, drive south on Gulf Boulevard about 30 minutes and you'll see Redington Shores Beach. There's a nice parking lot with lots of room, restrooms and changing facilities, and an outdoor shower. I like this beach for pictures because it has some old piers and rocks--it's more than just sand. Mingle with the locals here, and enjoy the quiet beach, if that's more your style. You'll be about 45 minutes from Hunt Haven when you're ready to return.

This is located right BEHIND us (you'll have to drive around the block to reach it) and has tennis courts, a walking/jogging path, and a great covered playground. The walking path is the beginning of the Ream Wilson Trail, if you want to walk or bike a few miles and see the area.

If you're willing to drive about an hour, especially if you want something unique, you have to check out Weeki Wachee. If you want to sit and relax, they have a famous show with live mermaids.
