Essentials

I really enjoyed going into this place for the first time. A friend of ours suggested that we go to the deli for lunch. Get the turkey with cranberry sauce. Wow. They only have two tables, so it's really better for take out. But give it a try for a picnic you will not be disappointed. They also have a great little market (with different/local items) so you can pick up anything else you may need.

Great store! Wonderful produce, meat counter, deli and bakery. The deli is great because they have a great selection of deli food (fried chicken, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy, etc. They also gave some local food items for sale (best fudge ever).

Best horseback rides. They have great stock (in other words, not overworked trail horses).

For first timers and those coming back annually this is a must. Mad River has several types of trips. I'm a local and have been around different guides for years. I would not go anywhere else. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about local history, flora and fauna. In the scenic trip you will see so much and you can take any age range (very, very safe). I can't remember a trip where I did not see eagles, moose and deer. But try the white water as well, it's a blast and if you purchase the photos you have will have a great memory for years to come.

Food Scene

They are known for their steak (traditional fair) and have a nice menu. It is more "dressing for dinner" vibe (consider reservations). The bar is small but nice and has great local beer on tap.
