Shepard's Farm Preserve

Ordway Grove is a walk through some of the oldest white pine and oak trees in the area. The trailhead is on the west side of Pleasant Street, two blocks north of Main Street. Ordway Grove is 1.3 miles from the house.

Roberts Farm Preserve offers great hiking over easy terrain with a lookout over Penneseewassee Lake and the mountains beyond. In winter, groomed cross-country ski trails are available with a warming hut and free use of equipment on site. Snowshoe trails are also available. Roberts Farm Preserve is 1.3 miles from the house. We like to park at the rest stop on route 117 and hike up the hill trail to access the preserve. A large parking lot off Roberts Road is also available.

Located 10.2 miles from the house, the 1,060 foot tall Mount Tire'm is one of our favorite quick mountain hikes. A nice overlook provides excellent views of the Long Lake region and the Presidential Range mountains.

About 50 minutes from the house. Several excellent day hikes, including Table Rock and the Eyebrow loop. Easier hikes also include Screw Auger Falls, Mother Walker Falls, and Moose Cave. More strenuous hikes include East and West Bald Pate mountains and Old Speck mountain (4,170 feet), which is the 4th tallest mountain in Maine. Excellent views, even from the parking lot! We love hiking here!
