Fantastic wood fired pizza, salads, and sandwiches. Solid brunch on the weekends and great baked goods and coffee. Beer and wine are available as well. Good place to read or do work, but be warned, their wifi is spotty. A 10-15 minute walk or very short street car ride from the guest house.

Fancy-ish tacos and other Mexican staples. Very friendly owner and staff. Not the most authentic Mexican you'll find in town, but solid food and a relaxing atmosphere. There's an outside patio that's nice to sit on when the weather permits.

This is currently one of our favorite restaurants in town. It's about a 10 minute drive from the guest house, but has an amazing assortment of noodle soups and appetizers. There is a new second location on the north east side of town; would be a convenient stop if you're headed to or from Cataline State Park.

This is one of our current favorite restaurants in town. The food features flavors from across the southwest and Mexico combined with quality ingredients. The location is a bit off the beaten track and they have a small parking lot, but those minor inconveniences are well worth dealing with for an amazing meal!

Amazing hole in the wall for great Mexican breakfast or lunch. They are only open Monday-Friday, but if you happen to be in town during the week, you should definitely consider checking it out. Solid, traditional Mexican dishes like Huevos Rancheros and Chile Rellenos, as well as fantastic aguas frescas that change daily. The music tends to be loud inside, but they also have a nice small outdoor patio available for dining.

Parks & Nature

Beautiful recreation area on the north eastern edge of town. Easily accessible by car. There is a paved path that goes a few miles into the park and a tram, making it an accessible park for those with limited mobility or who don't want to go 'off road'. There are a number of beautiful hiking trails of various intensities that are accessible from the visitors' center and parking area.

A beautiful place to watch the sunset over the desert. There is a parking area with a few picnic tables. A few short trails start/end at the parking area. Watch out for rattlesnakes and other critters, even though you're close to town they're not uncommon!

A bit of a drive (about 30-40 minutes), but well worth the trip if you have the time. There are wide variety of trails from very easy/flat to more difficult. The Sutherland to Canyon Loop Trail is a hike we do often with our toddlers. It's easy and there are a couple creek crossings where water is often flowing. The Romero Pools hike is a great one as well (there are pools large enough to swim in during/after monsoon season), but much more difficult.

Paved one-lane up one of the small mountains on the edge of town. The hike is a steady climb, you gain 800 feet over 1.5 miles. Pedestrians are asked to stay off from 9am-5pm during the week due to a small amount of traffic. Great views of the city along the way and at the top.

Great little grocery store (it's technically a co-op, but you don't have to be a member to shop there). They have everything from produce to dry goods and pre-made sandwiches and salads. They also have a hot bar that's really good as well (especially their lunch/dinner selections).

A combination zoo, natural history museum, and botanical garden, the Desert Museum is a must see when visiting Tucson. The entrance fee is a bit pricy ($22 for general admission), but it's a great way to learn about the Sonoran desert and experience some amazing views.
