You can venture virtually any direction from the square and find cool stuff. You'll see art galleries, boutiques and even more restaurants. A quarter mile south of the Square, on Saturdays from 9:00am - 2:00pm, you will find the Ocala Downtown Market which features locally grown produce, handmade crafts, plants, food vendors, a playground for kids and all the other stuff a weekly outdoor market should have. This location is the headspring of the Rainbow River where the spring pool varies from 5 to 18 feet deep and remains a cool 72 degrees year round. (Note: alcohol is prohibited in public areas in all Florida state parks.) 24.7 miles from Retreat One, you will find the KP Hole Park (on the Rainbow River) located at 9435 SW 190th Avenue Road, Dunnellon, FL, 34432. This is a local favorite offering swimming, picnicking, and a boat ramp. Canoe, kayak and tube rentals are available on site. Daily user fee of per person for paddlers, swimmers and picnickers. There is a $20.00 launch fee for motor vessels. Children under the age of 5 are free. Pets (excluding service animals) and alcohol are not permitted in the park. Tube rentals are $25 plus tax and include the return shuttle service. In most areas, the spring pool is only a few feet deep though it varies with the underlying aquifer water level. Areas over the spring vents can be up to 20 ft deep. There is an entry fee to the park, and the park can become very crowded on weekends and holidays in hot weather. 39.3 miles from Retreat One, you will find Silver Glen Springs located at 5271 FL US 19, Salt Springs, FL, 32134. Grab a mask and snorkel some of the most clear and stunning water in the state. There is an admission fee for day-use of $8.00 per person on weekdays and $11 per person on weekends. Activities include swimming, picnicking, hiking and canoeing. Amenities include portable toilets with a changing area, picnic tables, pedestal grills and a 10’ X 15’ canoe/kayak launching deck. 44.4 miles from Retreat One, you will find Alexander Springs Recreation Area located at 49525 CR 445, Altoona, FL 32702. Visitors can swim, snorkel and dive (certified divers) year-round. This spring is the only place in the Ocala National Forest where scuba diving is permitted. Fishing and canoeing are popular outside of the swimming area. Anglers can bring a rod and reel and head down to one of the platforms along the Timucuan Trail to drop a line in Alexander Run. Visitors can rent canoes or bring their own and paddle down Alexander Run into the Alexander Springs Wilderness. Day hikers will appreciate a short interpretive trail on a boardwalk over the spring and through the palm trees.

It is also known for its Spanish colonial architecture as well as beautiful sandy Atlantic Ocean beaches. The Castillo de San Marcos is a 17th century Spanish stone fortress with views of the St. Augustine Inlet. After visiting the fort, there is a (walkable) area with shops and dining.
