Once an operating ranch, Highlands Ranch is now home to 107,017 residents as of 2020, restaurants, a shopping mall, and over 50 miles of hiking trails and backcountry area. While modern-day Highlands Ranch was just founded in 1981, the Denver metropolitan area comes with its own rich history dating back more than 100 years. The town sits within Douglas County, and is a great spot to check out if you’re already visiting the Mile High City.

Originally built in 1891, The Highlands Ranch Mansion is the namesake of the community of Highlands Ranch. The Mansion is open to the public for community and private events, conferences and tours. The Mansion is a focal point in the community where residents can gather, celebrate and experience the lifestyle of years gone by at this western estate. The Highlands Ranch Mansion, owned and operated by the Highlands Ranch Metro District, offers elegant indoor and outdoor settings for weddings, receptions, holiday parties, as well as business meetings. The Metro District Board of Directors and staff invite you to step back in time, learn about our community’s heritage – and attend or host an event at the historic Mansion.

On Chatfield's trails, you can escape the boredom of the gym by taking a morning jog, exploring natural areas that border the reservoir, leisurely pedaling your bicycle through the park, or riding a horse into the sunset. Trail maps are available at the park's main entrances.
