The Arts and Crafts Community is the largest independent organization of artisans in the United States. There are more than 100 working studios that belong to weavers, potters, woodworkers, and painters whose family legacies predate the park. The artists often will talk with visitors and discuss the history of their craft. Each shop offers plenty of free parking. It’s a great place to buy local handmade crafts and souvenirs. Best way to get there is to make a right onto Jayell Rd, then a right onto 416 and then take it all the way down to the community.

The Cades Cove Loop winds for 11 miles through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a paved path that has a 4mi, 8mi, or 11 mi one way loop where you’ll get the chance to see some incredible wildlife, including black bears. It is typically open for automobiles to drive through; however, on Wednesdays from May to the beginning of September, it is closed to automobiles. It is ALWAYS open to pedestrians, making it really nice for biking or walking on Wednesdays. Tip: to avoid all the traffic, rent bikes at the Cades Cove Campground Store (or bring your own). Note: go early to get a bike: it is first come first serve. They will also not rent if it is raining. Go early near dawn or dusk to see more wildlife, and don't be afraid to take some of the roads in the center of the loop for a chance to see some bears depending on the time of year. Just make sure to check hours as the loop road is closed to motor vehicles during certain times of day through the week. Take a picnic with you and sit in a beautiful field and let the kids run around. Make sure you go early. It takes a while and sometimes traffic backs up. They stop allowing visitors at dusk. Europeans settled the Cades Cove area between 1818 and 1821. Today, visitors to Cades Cove can enjoy the largest variety of historic buildings in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Plan to get out and visit the restored buildings.

Andrew’s Bald is the highest bald in the Smokies. Thanks to several acres of open grassy meadows, commonly referred to as balds in the Appalachians, spectacular views of the southern Smokies await you at the end of this hike. Andrews Bald is the perfect place to unfold a blanket, relax, and enjoy a picnic lunch. Andrews Bald Trail, which is right outside Clingman's Dome, is about 3.5 miles round trip. It’s a medium difficulty hike with mild elevation.

The highest point of Tennessee! It is only open for some of the year and closes for winter. The best views in the entire park as it is the highest elevation you can drive to. 1.2 miles round trip, very popular but steep hike. Great sunset or sunrise hike; go early to avoid the crowds. You can see 7 states from this vantage point. The hike, up a paved path, takes about 20 or 30 minutes to get to the top. Be sure to go on a clear day. Temperatures can be 10-20 degrees cooler, so take appropriate clothing.

The roundtrip distance to the waterfall is 2.6 miles and hike is considered moderate in difficulty. It takes about 2 hours to hike to the waterfall and back. It’s one of the most popular destinations in the park and parking at the trailhead is limited. The area is especially busy on weekends year-around and all week during summer.
