Just on the left about a kilometre after you turn off the Hume Highway for Mittagong, you’ll find the most amazing antiques in the garden and also the main house and outbuildings. We purchased our fountain and greenhouse from Lydie, so she’s obviously got taste and lots of beautiful things ;-)

A great addition to the southern highlands food scene. Julien and Romy opened Franquette this Spring (2023) and they offer a great selection of sweet and savoury crepes. And they all come either gluten free or can be made gluten free. Great coffee too, and fantastic service.

The Distillery is one of a few single malt distilleries in the world to grow their own barley and have access to natural pristine spring water on-site. The Jimenez family provides great tastings and tours of the village. A must see.

The closest falls to Nattai Lodge. Turn right out the gate on Leopold St and walk into the national park and follow the very vague signs. You need to cross a small creek and then follow it until you come to the falls. Beautiful after a few days of rain…but bring your gum boots

Boasting spectacular views, amazing birdwatching and walking opportunities for all ages, Barren Grounds is perfect for day trip while staying in the highlands.
Almost completely encircled in rocky cliffs at the top of Jamberoo Pass, it has a wealth of birdlife and unique plant species. The heathland wildflowers burst with colour during spring.
With walks ranging from an easy 2km to a more challenging 20km, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy. Head to Illawarra lookout or Cooks Nose for magnificent views of the Illawarra coastline and surrounding countryside. Or head off on Griffiths walking track and spend the day in the bush.
Barren Grounds is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with around 180 different species of birds. Keep your binoculars and cameras handy to catch a photo of honeyeaters, southern emu wrens, crimson rosellas, cockatoos and grey currawongs. You might even spot a threatened ground parrot or eastern bristlebird.
Finish your walk with lunch at the Robertson pub.
