Food Scene

Very popular local ice cream with unique flavors. Their rotating monthly flavors are always super inventive and amazing. Be prepared for a line, but it's worth it (and they're also available on Postmates)!

The first Stumptown location, with a wide menu and a great atmosphere. We recommend the nitro brew on tap!

We lived in Seoul, South Korea before moving to Portland so we have a soft spot for Korean food. We eat SO many bibimboxes and highly recommend. This is a food cart so there is some covered seating but it's all outside, so during colder weather it's best as takeout. They are also on Postmates, though, if you're staying in!

One of Portland's more popular donut shops, Blue Star has artisan flavors like raspberry rosemary buttermilk and blueberry bourbon basil. They only make so many per day and when they sell out they sell out so get there early if you really need one!

Full disclosure - Holiday just opened and we have not tried it yet. However, if you are vegetarian/vegan and/or gluten free I can say there's almost no way this place isn't great. It's a new concept by Duane Sorenson, who is well-known for starting Stumptown, The Woodsman and Ava Gene's and everything he does is fantastic. Even if you aren't vegan/vegetarian and/or gluten free, I'm sure you would be impressed :)

Parks & Nature

Mt. Tabor is a popular place to go running (there are paved and unpaved paths) and has beautiful views of the city! The park has several picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts and an off-leash dog park.

Forest Park is a little farther away (8 miles/20 minute drive) but it's worth it! It's a huge park with an extensive network of running and hiking trails. Wildwood is the main/most popular trail (accessible via the NW entrance) but there are plenty of other, more secluded trails as well. The Hoyt Arboretum, Japanese Garden and Rose Garden are all part of Forest Park.

Shopping

NW 23rd Avenue is a cluster of high-end shopping and dining in the Alphabet District. Think Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Lush Cosmetics, etc. with local stores mixed in as well. If you enjoy shopping it's definitely worth a visit. It definitely feels commercial but it's a pretty walk with lots of good places to eat and enough unique shops interspersed to make it interesting.

Pioneer Place/Pioneer Square is the main shopping district with most of the major stores you would find in a downtown shopping center: Apple, Nordstrom, Nike, J. Crew, Gap, etc.

Powell's is a huge bookstore with an impressive selection of new, used and rare books. The store takes up a full city block on 10th and Burnside (4 miles/15 minutes away) and you could easily spend an entire day just browsing there! There's limited parking in a garage on the NW side of the block (but at busy times it can be tricky getting in and out).

Essentials

Safeway is only 3 minutes away by car or 11 minutes on foot. It has everything you would expect at a traditional grocery store, including a pharmacy. It is not a one-stop-shop store, though. If you need more than groceries, see Fred Meyer. They are open late, though! They close at midnight.

Fred Meyer will have almost anything you need. The upper floor is home goods and the first floor is the grocery. They have a great selection - it's where we do most of our grocery shopping! They close at 11 pm.

If you get sick or need a doctor (not ER status), ZoomCare can take care of you. You don't have to be a patient with them already and you can book online or via their app. You can also chat with doctors in lieu of seeing them in person. They can fill a lot of prescriptions there and have a small selection of over-the-counter products that they can recommend and can be purchased as well.

Getting Around

Biketown (pronounced "bikeytown" because it's a collaboration with Nike) is our bike-sharing service. Portland has an extensive network of bikeways so you can access anyplace in the city via bike (Clinton Street happens to be one of these bikeways so bike traffic is super common on our street). FYI - bikes do not have to be returned to their original kiosk. You can lock them to any Biketown kiosk in town or you can lock them to a public bike rack for a small additional fee. They're collected each night and redistributed. Sign up at their website: biketownpdx.com
