North Head National Park is a wonderful place to visit with stunning views out to sea, across the heads, and back towards Sydney Harbour. Plenty of beautiful walks, bike tracks and places to just sit and have a picnic. There is also a cafe for sit down or take away food and drink. The nearby historic Quarantine Station holds tours of its facilities. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/lookouts/north-head

Neighbourhoods

Close enough yet far enough away from Manly to enjoy quiet walks around the streets with an interesting diversity in Architecture. The old Manly Cemetery is located 5 minutes walk away along Griffith Street. A heritage site and interesting to read the epitaphs and learn about local history. Fairlight shops on Sydney Road include a butcher, convenience store, chemist, bottle shop, a few gift shops and some great cafes including The Butchers Cafe https://www.facebook.com/The.Butchers.Cafe and Two Siisters Pantry https://www.two-siisters.com.au/. I highly recommend both for great coffees, breakfasts and lunches. If you prefer an Indoor Pool, Boy Charlton Pool is 5 minutes walk, located on Balgowlah Road https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/swimming-pools/manly-aquatic-centre For those keen on walking, there are a number of coastal and bushwalks close by. The most popular is the Spit to Manly Walk, which can be accessed by walking to Fairlight Beach, or starting at Manly. https://www.sydneycoastwalks.com.au/spit-to-manly-walk/ This walk stretches for 9km and if you walk one way, there are buses at either end. Manly Dam is a 10 minute drive away, and stretches 7.5 km around the dam through beautiful bush on a natural track. This is a grade 3 walk, so walking experience is required. http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/manly-warringah-war-memorial-park-manly-dam/manly-dam-circuit-walk.html For more information on Fairlight and environs, have a look at the Northern Beaches Council website : https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/ There is a free shuttle service which services Fairlight, Manly and Balgowlah and a stop is just outside the front door https://files.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/hop-skip-jump-bus-timetable-new.pdf https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/services/roads-and-paths/transport
