Dining and Cafe Life.

Brother's brew is another great option for breakfast or lunch and also close to Front Beach. We probably come here once a week during the summers to get breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Not to mention, they make their own donuts and they are wicked tasty!

Wanna feel like a local? Gloucester has a huge Italian and Sicilian population and a lot of the old guard hangs out here. Get some serious espresso drinks, cookies, and pastries and maybe work on your Italian.

I remember thinking that the combo of oysters and pizza just seemed wrong. Turns out, I was wrong. S and M has farm to table dining, a great selection of Oysters and Pizza, along with some really tasty salads and an ever changing entree menu. The cocktail drinks are also notable. They don't take reservations for less than 4 people. FYI.

We're adding Anju to the list. Yes, we know it's in Maine and takes about an hour and 15 to get there. This hipster spot serves up some of the best ramen we have found in New England. Pretty much everything on their menu is super tasty. They also have a great wine and beer selection. Make a day of it...

Sadly, it's a bit of a hike to get some good tacos, but totally worth it! La Victoria is like the Taquerias I grew up with in California. Substantial tacos, burritos, and tortas at super reasonable prices. If you find yourself heading to Beverly or Salem, check it out. Muy chido!

Sightseeing

The Cape Ann Museum is a gem! It showcases local artists, artist colonies, as well the history of Gloucester as a fishing port. I don't think my description gives it justice. Highly recommend if you're looking for a museum that won't be an all day event, but is also stunning and worthwhile.

Don't stop at the edge of downtown, take a left on Atlantic and make your way towards the end of the street and take the path that leads to the Headlands. It'll give you a different view of town and you'll be able to sit on the rocks and watch all the boats coming and going.

Cape Hedge is a sweetheart of a beach. When the tide is low, it gets pretty expansive. This is a beautiful sandy beach where you can find non-resident parking on Thacher Road. You can actually walk from the end of Pebble Beach to Cape Hedge, and continue to Long Beach (resident parking only). It makes for a beautiful early morning or evening stroll.

Shopping

Hands down, one of our favorite place to shop for housewares and gift items. Want some snacks and beverages? Spices, condiments, or teas? Chocolates? Cool stuff for your house? Beautiful textiles? This place has everything you didn't know you needed and it's all super cool. Brett, the owner, has a great eye for design.

Rockport has a boatload of galleries. We're pretty picky...We even walked passed this place so many times before stopping in and realizing we should have come in a lot sooner. Here you'll find an amazing collection of 16th to 20th Century European master drawings. It's like walking into a tiny museum. Whether you can afford the art or not, it's worth going in, seeing the art, and saying hello to the owner, Steven. He is very knowledgeable and always makes you feel at home.
