Sightseeing

Hiking: Gorgeous nature preserve located on Great Wass Island just south of Beals Island. Miles of walking trails with breathtaking scenic views of the ocean around. Every bit as awesome as trails in Acadia, with the benefit that you share the trails with very few other hikers. Make sure you bring plenty of water and snacks. We made that mistake our first time. The only bummer is that no dogs are permitted.

4 Miles North. Great little beach for walking and rock collecting. Bring a chair. Ignore the Private Property signs and walk to the end. There is also a cool island to explore during low tide.

Well worth the drive if you are a true nature lover. One of only two like it in the world. The other is in Japan. Beach is rocky. Beautiful rocks round and oval all sizes...speckled shades of red, rust, white, and gray, looking like Jasper. Low tide brings into view some sea caves and of course, lovely and unspoiled views. The ebb and flow of the water and the tinkling sound of the pebbles after each ebbing wave is soothing. Pack a lunch and explore.
