A pick your adventure National Park. Everything from picnicking under lush cottonwood canopies to backpacking deep into the water pocket fold are available here. I enjoy the scenic hikes, slot canyons, and mountain biking, but most of all the home made ice-cream.
A great place to escape the heat, with many lakes and ponderosa pines. There are many access points to Boulder Mountain in close proximity. A high clearance vehicle is required for most of the unpaved roads. If your car isn't prepared for a big adventure, Highway 12 will take you up!

Alpine desert land scape
At over 7,000 feet this desert can be both hot and cold in short notice. Bring sunscreen year round, and prepare for a light jacket at night in the summer months. A sun hoodie is highly recommended, as it will keep you cool in the sun, and warm at night.
Lotion is nice -- unless you're a lizard -- and closed toed shoes can help keep the occasional cactus out of your foot.
