This is where my Tassie faux family live and work. Marion's is an incredible place filled with beauty, stories, art, design and a real commitment to stewardship of the earth - including being Organic certified. Cynthea and Dave have a couple of labels that they make wine under, here you'll find the premium product with Cynthea's mum's name on it. You may even meet Marion herself at the cellar door. Cynthea calls her winemaking style "wholemeal" in that she doesn't muck around with it as much as other winemakers do. I love her Temp, the Pet Nat, Chardonnay and the 2012 Pinot Noir is exceptional if you manage to get a bottle (I helped move it around the winery back in the day) Go there and drink, eat and be merry.

If you like Chardonnay - and trust me, you will after drinking Tamar Valley Chardonnay - or Riesling or Gerwertz... I personally think that Goaty Hill's one word description for their Chardonnay on their tasting menu is apt = Wow. Can also recommend their platters out on their deck, looking over where the Pulp Mill was going to be. You'll understand why the locals fought so hard for so many years to kill that plan.

I personally think that Goaty Hill's one word description for their Chardonnay on their tasting menu is apt = Wow. Can also recommend their platters out on their deck, looking over where the Pulp Mill was going to be. You'll understand why the locals fought so hard for so many years to kill that plan.
Rebecca Duffy is another Tamar Valley institution as winemaker and business leader. Bec has won awards in wine, as a winemaker/operator, and for her service to primary industry in Tasmania. I particularly like her reds and the paddock to plate ethos of the Duffy family. You'll leave Holm Oak knowing exactly what local produce will go with the wines and a recipe or two if you're interested.

Fran and Shane have created a wonderful vibe at Delamere, along with making some of the region's best fizz. Fran is a sparkling specialist, who has honed her craft through international study and immersion; she makes the sparkling for a number of the boutique vineyards in the region. Shane will tell you he'll take the Pepsi challenge against Jules' Pinot Noir any day... you can choose picnic items from their cellar door and then select a spot to admire the views and sample all the goodness they have to offer.

Walk on over to the wharf to visit Platypus House. See a number of Tassie's local fauna up close. You may even get to feed Edwina the Echidna when she greets you in the enclosure (like, literally walks right up to you).

Right next door to Platypus House is Seahorse World, an aquarium with a difference! So many creatures to look at and learn about. Definitely a favourite for those who love the sea.
