This trail is a steep hike up an old tramway trail from Lake George Village to the top of Prospect Mountain with great views of the southern end of Lake George. The tramway was once the largest cable railroad in the world. Expect to see other hikers as this is a very popular hiking trail due to the beautiful views. The parking area is alongside Smith Street (at the trailhead at the bottom of the mountain).

Aside from the hatchery, these grounds offer two sheltered picnic areas with restrooms, a children’s play area, and a canoe access site, as well as a large open area for other activities. We have become a favorite spot for picnickers and fisherman alike! They offer reservations for the use of the picnic pavilions on a first-come basis.

Museums and indoor attractions

The Warrensburgh Museum of Local History was founded in 1975, at the start of America's Bicentennial Celebration. Storage trunks and attics of local residents have yielded thousands of artifacts and photographs related to Warrensburg's history. In 2002 the museum was closed for renovation and reorganization by the Warrensburgh Historical Society and reopened in July 2009 with all new exhibits. Exhibits are reviewed frequently. Several temporary exhibits are also created each year.

The Fort is open from May to October. Sitting atop a small rise, Fort William Henry commanded the southern end of Lake George from November 1755 to August 1757 during the French & Indian War. Guided tours are conducted every hour. The museum contains many artifacts discovered during archeological digs at the site and search of the lake near the fort. At the end of each tour, children are asked if they wish to join the King's Army as a soldier. Soldiers will be given a uniform, musket, and a chance to drill with the soldiers.
