Food Scene

Mediterranean/Lebanese food: Shawarma, Falafel, Hummus, Tabouleh. Wally's is next to impossible to find unless someone tells you exactly where it is. It's wedged in the back room of a dive bar (The Bank Club). Swing through the bar if you want to grab a beer (or wine with a straw!) for dinner; otherwise, proceed through the side gate and enter Wally's near the back of the building to the tiny, U-shaped counter. Outdoor picnic tables for nice days. Say hi to Wally!

[Thrillist Review] Chop Bar represents the best of Oakland: it's homey and funky, the crowd is diverse, and the food and drink are all local. No matter when you go, the all-day eatery on Jack London Square is bustling, particularly when you can take advantage of the indoor-outdoor front patio. The menu is always changing, but expect a mix of comfort foods like oxtail poutine, meatloaf, mac & cheese, and risotto. It's also one of the few places that serves wine (all from California, of course) on tap.

Old school restaurant. Get a martini, sit back and listen to the jazz after the hustle and bustle of Union Square shopping! "John's Grill has been a San Francisco tradition since 1908. This historic restaurant is one of the city's oldest and most famous and is a favorite of celebrities who enjoy great steaks, expertly prepared fresh seafood with excellent service and a one of a kind atmosphere. John's Grill was a setting in author Dashiell Hammett, The Maltese Falcon (you can see a replica in the bar). The restaurant has earned many tributes: it has been chosen as one of the 10 best by Esquire and featured in Gourmet Magazine. Live jazz nightly in the upper level dining room."

Great Bloody Marys, oysters, and casual, outdoor, al fresco dining. Weekend brunch. Hipsters in the 1980s used to come here for brunch after a night out mosh-pitting at a Dead Kennedys show. The Shrimp Louie is great, as is the standard 'Merican fare (burgers, fries, etc.). And, still a great place for the young, and young at heart, to nurse themselves back to life with a spicy Bloody Mary! :)

Sightseeing

For the first time in history, pedestrians and cyclists have the chance to travel across the new East Span of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge. While two-thirds of the Bay Bridge Trail opened to the public in September of 2013, allowing visitors to traverse just past the span's 525-foot signature tower, the final segment of the path opened on October 23, 2016, giving the public access to the entire 2.2-mile-path between Oakland and Yerba Buena Island. rom October 2016 to March 10, 2017, the pathway on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge will be open on weekends and holidays from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Drinks & Nightlife

[1--Best Review] If you want to dance but don't feel like taking two hours to deck yourself out in the latest trends, head to The Make-Out Room. They understand the simple trifecta for a successful dance club: loud music, stiff drinks, and plenty of space to jump around. The Make-Out Room can be the crowning moment of a full-day in the always popular Mission neighborhood. After you've enjoyed a sunshiney day in the Mission (almost always less fog than the rest of San Francisco), you can enjoy one of the many world-class restaurants in this food-crazed district before hitting the Make-Out Room's popular happy hour. After that, dance the night away! Live music/local bands weekly also.

Go for an umbrella drink; stay for the awesome 'thunder and lightening' show when the band floats onto the pool. Then, walk down to Chinatown for some great food, wander over to North Beach for Italian pastries and coffee! "Tonga Room features a top-40 band performing from a thatch-covered barge on the lagoon; a dance floor built from the remains of the S.S. Forester, a lumber schooner that once traveled regularly between San Francisco and the South Sea Islands; and periodic light tropical rainstorms, complete with thunder and lightning."
