Best coffee around - they roast it themselves daily! Also a good place to meet locals. This is where a lot of the farmers, younger folks and newcomers gather in Mancos.

Fantastic and very popular cidery/winery that opened in the Spring of 2018. If you haven’t tried locally crafted cider from heritage, heirloom apple trees, you’re missing out! They’ve got a beautiful tap room right on the Mancos River where you can taste test a variety of ciders (try a flight!), and they have their own food truck and live music on most weekends. Check their website or FB page for details.

Excellent sandwiches, paninis, homemade soups, and salads made daily - available in the grab & go cooler. All the in-house baked goods are gluten free and you can get excellent gluten free sandwiches. (Try the Cowgirl BLT and home-girl cookies! Take your sandwiches to Mesa Verde!) This is also the local health food grocery. By shopping here you are supporting actual people who live in our community. ☺ Say hello to Kate who owns the store and cares about good food and community. Also - need a bit of spice or lotion or trail mix? You can buy these in bulk here.

This is where all the old ranchers drink coffee, eat breakfast and talk about early morning things. Has pretty good pizza too. Nothing organic and don’t look for fancy here. This is our down-home independent grocery with a cafeteria style hot food area. Occasionally during the growing season you can find limited local produce.

In Cortez, a great place for a down-home meal with a twist, paired with a good drink if that's what you like. The atmosphere is low-key and the food is consistently good.

This is where to go when you want a special dinner and you're willing to spend to enjoy it. A five star restaurant right in our little town. The menu changes almost daily with food that leans towards seafood and Spanish style. Good wines and great service. Reservations not required but highly recommended.

Sightseeing

A true gem in our area. Check out the Visitors Center (just 7 miles from us) before driving up the mesa. You can spend several days there. Note that if you want to get up and close and personal to the ruins, you need to reserve spots on a tour. Do so at the visitor’s center. We’ve been on all the tours and each one is worthy; if you have time for only one, we recommend Cliff Palace. Petroglyph Point is also a neat hike - be sure to bring plenty of water in the hot months and be prepared to maneuver around and up rocks and uneven trails.

A personal favorite. More cool ruins. Remote, less crowded. It is a bit of a drive but well worth it. Best in spring and fall for cooler temps. If going in summer, try for early AM.

Great museum for the whole family. You can learn about native American history as well as early pioneers and development of McPhee Reservoir. Children and adults alike may enjoy grinding corn with a stone like the ancients did.

Mancos Library

The Library frequently hosts events, film screenings, etc. Also a great spot for internet access or questions about the region. It’s LEED certified (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) and actually kind of hip! You can sit and read overlooking the Mancos River, and there are a couple of nice seating areas outside on the river, too.
