Great local restaurant that kind of looks like a dive in a local strip mall. But the menu is affordable, the staff is great, and the food is delicious.

There are dozens of good restaurants and shops at or around the South Town mall located <5 min away from the house. It is a great place to get away, enjoy the town away from the hustle of down town SLC, and find a tasty bite to eat with loads of options for everyone.

Great local restaurant at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon with a German culinary beer garden theme. It's a little bit of a hike from the house but it's worth it if you're visiting. Try the nachos. They're great, no joke.

If you've never been to Utah, Little Cottonwood Canyon is a must see! 2 world class ski resorts (Alta & Snowbird) that you can't go wrong with, dozens of hiking and biking trails, great views, and some really fun festivities around the snowbird area in summer or winter. It takes 20 min to drive up and down the canyon and it's an amazing view every time. We've spent a lot of time in this canyon. Feel free to reach out on good hike suggestions, back country tips, or tips on where good skiing is given current conditions.

Dimple dell is an extensive park system administered through the city of Sandy. Dogs and horses are allowed and it's really popular with local residents. The trail system connects to the north side of Lone Peak park that you can access through the back gate at the house and extends all the way to the mouth of Little Cottonwood canyon on the East side or down to the tras station on and bike the north south bike trail on the west side. It’s great for trail runs or if you want to get away for a nice stroll.

The most accessible large canyon in the SLC valley with 2 world class ski resorts (Brighton and Solitude) and dozens of world class biking and hiking trails as well as climbing routes. The canyon is usually easiest to get to by taking i-15 northbound and then connecting to i-215, but you can get there just as quickly and easily by taking side roads instead of the interstate. You almost always run into moose on hikes in this canyon. We would highly recommend the Lake Blanche hike and either ski resort is good. Beware that solitude charges for parking though.

Amazing road with world class views. You have to pay for access to the road but it's worth it. The road loops around the back of Mount Timpanogos and the full loop is only open in the summer but it's open part way in the winter, or you can access tiblefork reservoir that is great for sledding, snowshoeing, or hiking in summer or winter.

Tips for getting around

Most anything of note is within a 20 min drive from the house. Avoid i-15 during rush hour if you can, but traffic isn't bad no matter the time any where else. If you don't have a car, the closest trax station is the Civic center station and it's a 15 min walk from the house and that will connect you to all of the public transport in the city.
